History

Preservation of Fauna and Flora of the country is a very important National Policy of the Government.  Accordingly the Ministry of Wildlife Resources Conservation was established on 06.02.2013 by Gazette Notification No.1796/10 issued by His Excellency the President with the objective of preserving wildlife heritage in the Wildlife Reservation Network within which sources of all main rivers and catchment areas of 40 reservoirs including main reservoirs which provide water for agriculture and power generation are located.  The first Minister of this new Ministry is Hon.Vijith Vijayamuni Soysa while Eng.B.K.U.A.Wickramasinghe functioning as its first Secretary
