Our Misssion
“To pave the way for human beings and all animal species to live in harmony through the establishment of an effective Wildlife Reservation Net-work. ”


Main objectives


  1. Conservation of wildlife resources based on “Mahinda Chintana Forward Vision” and other National Policies to be implemented by the Government.
  2. Up keeping of Wildlife Reservation Network so as to get environmental social and economic Benefits to the country.
  3. Adhering to efficient and people- friendly public service within the scope of work of the Ministry.


In addition to that the following services and functions are carried out by the Ministry.


  1.  Implementation of the Fauna and Flora Protection Ordinance No.02 of 1937.
  2. Adhering to International Wildlife Treaties
  3. Taking policy decisions and their implementation to enable for human being and all the other animal species to live on Earth while preserving wildlife heritage and bio-diversity.
  4. Contributing towards the growth of eco-tourism through development of National Parks
  5. Monthly, quarterly and annual evaluation, monitoring and supervision of activities in the Annual Action Plan.
  6. Effective utilization of the Wildlife Trust and the Wildlife Conservation Fund towards preservation of wildlife resources and monitoring and supervision of their expenditure.
